Just read an article about logistics in China, published on AutoMotive Logistics JULY/AUG 2006. It is talking about in nowadays, globalization and the explosion of international trading makes logistics more and more important than ever before. A typical case is China. Western companies swarm to this country and looking for cheap resource and then, ship them back to their markets in the rest of the world. However, Chinese logistics capability now could be a issue to business. Since the infrastructure and regulations in China are not well developed and the logistics demands are continually rising, the risk of logistics is getting bigger. It maybe not valuable to sourcing in China considering the benefit archived and the risk caused by logistics, especially in high value and complex supply chain industry such as automotive. More or less, I agree on this theory if the infrastructure and regulations are as same as before. However, I know that the facilities for logistics in the country are developing and more resource are invested into the market by the government, which means the logistics capacity may handle the exploring demands. Since I am relatively new in this industry, I would like to know your comments about this theory and how the logistics is going in China now.

Recently, I am trying to find a carrier for deliverying tons of products. It is great that I am working in a company with a excellent ERP system with which I can easily look for carriers. And also, in the system, I can find the some remark for those companies. The remarks give me an impression at the beginning without any contact with the supplier or any trial period. I am wondering that how you or your company look for carriers and how to assess them?
Best Regards

I am a lucky guy, I can walk to my office and do not sit every morning in Shanghai's traffic jams. On my way to the office I walk through the small streets of old Shanghai near Yu Garden. On this way I pass every day several fruit and vegetable shops. If you know China, then you know what I am speaking about. A lot of tiny shopy, maybe just a cart...and they all have fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. I wonder how they get that every day. The small streets do not offer enough space to delivery the fruits by truck and there are just too many stores. I believe they get the fruits every day by these fancy transport bicyles. As a consequence of this bicycle transport mode the next bigger fruit consolidation centre cannot be too far away. I am very much interested how this works currently in detail. Do somebody know about that? Was this delivery system somehow planned and optimised? I would be happy to get your idea about this.

Welcome to our new blog. Since we developed a whole new web site for our company Com China with single and independent web pages for our three divisions Com Logistics, Com Sourcing and Com Consulting, we thought it might be a good idea to start a blog discussing issues and topics related to these three areas in China. We will see if this blog will be successful. It can be if it is worth for the visitors to read. And here we need your support, this blog is not supposed to be a media to communicate only in one direction. No, actually it is not, it can only survive if you contribute. Give us your opinions, discuss with us your problems and issues, we believe it can be a win-win situation for all of us. Have a good day, Michael
